Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight under huge threat as Eddie Hearn concern raised

Eddie Hearn has raised concerns over the long-awaited fight between Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury finally going ahead later this year.

The Brits, both considered two of the best heavyweights of the modern era, are set to face off in November after years of rumours, negotiations and build-up.

Joshua and Fury have both battled against all other serious competitors throughout their careers, except for one another, and millions of boxing fans are excited about that possibility changing.

Neither fighter is in prime form, with Joshua turning a low-risk battle against Kristian Prenga into a dogfight last month after hitting the canvas twice in the opening round.

The 36-year-old was left wiping the sweat off his brow after escaping with a second-round knockout. Fury, on the other hand, prevailed with a seventh-round stoppage in little more than an over-glorified training session against Mariusz Wach in Thailand.

The two former heavyweight champions are now contracted to meet in the UK later this year, but Netflix and the fight's Saudi backers want to host it at New York's Madison Square Garden.

But Matchroom Boxing chief Hearn and Joshua are pushing for it to be held at Wembley and are refusing to back down in negotiations.

"Everybody wants to do the fight in New York, apart from Anthony Joshua and me," Hearn told The Punch Podcast.

"We're under a huge amount of pressure, and we're being told by Turki Alshikh and those guys - Netflix particularly - 'Look, we really want to do the fight in the US.' It's almost not a 'please Eddie,' but like, 'We're partners. We're paying a lot of money. Come on, you have to understand that we need to put the fight where we feel is commercially the best place.'

"I don't agree with their arguments, but I'm not the one paying the money. However, we wouldn't have signed the contract if the fight was in America, so we have to have a discussion around that.

Hearn then admitted that a fight wouldn't go ahead if they announce it in the US without an agreement to change the venue, adding: "By the way, there might even be a situation where they go ahead and announce it anyway, and you'll probably see me come out quite quickly and say, 'No fight.'

"Because I promise you, if they announce that fight without an agreement in place to change the venue, there will be no fight, and we ain't bluffing."

When asked about his thoughts on the potential mouth-watering showdown, Dana White is convinced the fight will take place "where the money is", pointing towards a clash going ahead in America.

The UFC and Zuffa Boxing founder told Sky Sports: "We're the ones that have done all the deals for this fight. I did the deal for the venue, that's why I know where the venue is. I did the deal. We at TKO [the company which owns UFC, WWE and Zuffa Boxing] did the deal for television, and we did everything.

"At the end of the day, here's the truth, you're going to go where the money is."

Although Hearn is pushing for the fight to take place in the UK, as it stands, Madison Square Garden is the most likely possibility, with money dictating the decision.
