WWE superstar warned he 'might die if he took just one more hit'

WWE wrestlers often have to endure a lot of pain because of the moves and trauma they face during matches

A WWE superstar suffering from a severe neck injury was warned that he could have died if he had taken just one more hit.

Since its inception, WWE (and the WWF as it was known before then) has seen its superstars endure many serious injuries, often missing months - and even years in some - of action as they physically recover.

Legendary wrestler Edge famously had to vacate his World Heavyweight Championship belt because of a serious neck injury and although he returned years later, the WWE wrestler stated that his return to the ring was not easy. The likes of Seth Rollins, Finn Balor and Big E are fellow huge stars that have had serious injuries during matches. Often, the talent themselves don't realise the extent of the injury for months after they take place.

Kevin Owens, who is one of the best WWE wrestlers on the current roster and a certified Hall of Famer when that time comes, has faced a similar situation this year. And this week, he spoke about it in his recent appearance on a podcast with arguably the biggest name in wrestling at the moment, former WWE world champion Cody Rhodes.

Kevin Owens reveals he could have died

The 41-year-old was all set to go to WrestleMania 41 for a huge match against Randy Orton. But in April, Owens announced he was dropping out of the match to get surgery.

He revealed that he had suffered trauma on his neck back in January but he continued wrestling.

However, in April an MRI revealed that Owens had a serious injury to his neck and could not even afford to get hit.

"We're letting my spinal cord heal as much as we can on its own before we go in for the surgery, because how extensive the surgery will be depends on how my spinal cord looks when we go in there.

"We're waiting till mid-July to do the surgery," he later added.

"Hopefully, it's a normal neck fusion. It might not be, we don't know."

Kevin Owens pain and symptoms

The Canadian wrestler joined the WWE in 2014 and rose through the ranks to become one of the best wrestlers in the company.

This culminated in a huge match against Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 38, with both wrestlers receiving huge credit for the performance.

Owens stated that he was feeling fine for a while after his recent neck injury but had in recent weeks started feeling pain and symptoms of a spinal cord injury that he had so far avoided

He said: "In the last week we were texting about this two days ago and you asked me for details and in a classic Cody move, I didn't answer you, I left you hanging.

"In the last week for some reason, the symptoms came in one shot, the pain in the neck, the stuff going down the arms, the legs not responding, it's all been happening.

"I can't wait for this surgery and to move forward whatever that looks like. But it's been very frustrating."
