Brock Lesnar goes off-script as WWE SummerSlam went off the air as Oba Femi appears confused

Brock Lesnar appeared to go off-script after grabbing the microphone following his main event match against Oba Femi at SummerSlam.

Femi, who has only been on the main roster since March, defeated Lesnar with the Fall From Grace powerbomb inside Hell in a Cell to win his second fight of the three-match trilogy.

It was initially speculated that Lesnar had retired from in-ring competition when he left his boots in the ring after losing to Femi at WrestleMania.

But he subsequently made his unannounced return, defeating Femi at Clash in Italy back in May to set up their SummerSlam trilogy clash.

After his defeat in Minnesota, Lesnar - with his long-time friend Paul Heyman standing behind him - asked for a microphone and called Femi back into the ring.

And fans are convinced he went off-script with what he did next.

"Minnesota," Lesnar called out. "And the whole wide world watching this s**t tonight.

"Come here, Oba. Here's the future of WWE. Come here, Oba. Congratulations. This is the future, ladies and gentlemen."

Lesnar then pointed to himself before shouting out: "This is the past."

Turning his attention back to Femi, he added: "This is the future," before raising his opponent's arm up in the air and patting him on the back as he exited the ring.

"A true passing of the torch moment tonight," WWE commentator Michael Cole said. "We never thought that we'd ever see another Brock Lesnar again.

"You are maybe looking in the mirror. But that man's name is not Brock Lesnar. That man is the future - his name, Oba Femi."

Has Brock Lesnar retired from WWE?

While the post-match segment certainly appeared to be a retirement announcement, WWE chief content officer Paul 'Triple H' Levesque didn't confirm either way in his post-show press conference.

"For Brock to walk back to the ring, to bring Oba Femi back in there with him, to put him over verbally and physically as, 'this is the future of the business and I am the past... that's a pretty bold statement," Triple H said.

"Brock doesn't just say things. Without reading into it any more than that, 'I am the past' is what he said. But you know as well as I do, Brock does what Brock wants to do. So I would take what he said at face value, and let's see."

Why Lesnar fought in SummerSlam main event

Both of the opening Lesnar vs Femi trilogy matches opened the show at WrestleMania and Clash in Italy, but the third and final fight was promoted to main event status at SummerSlam.

The World Heavyweight Championship match between CM Punk and Cody Rhodes was the pre-main event, with Liv Morgan's defence of her Women's World Championship against IYO SKY opening the show.

No official reason has been given for awarding Lesnar vs Femi as the main event, but Lesnar had main evented at SummerSlam more than any other WWE wrestler before Saturday night.
