Manchester United Open Talks To Sign New Goalkeeper To Replace Dean Henderson

Manchester United Open Talks To Sign New Goalkeeper To Replace Dean Henderson

Erik ten Hag's team have opened talks to sign the goalkeeper who was in the Premier League last season.

Manchester United have opened talks with Watford to sign Austrian goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann, according to reports.

Whilst Manchester United have remained quiet so far this transfer window, it now seems that that is about to change.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano, United have now opened talks with Watford for their second-choice keeper Daniel Bachmann.

Bachmann, an Austrian international, was Watford’s starting keeper for the 2020/21 Championship season. However, he was moved to second-choice for the club’s Premier League campaign last season.

According to Romano, United have opened talks with Bachmann, he'd become either the second or third choice keeper at the club.

The deal is set to be a permanent one, with Watford not interested in a deal in any capacity that doesn’t see the player leave the club full-time.

With former United keeper Ben Foster firmly cementing himself as Watford’s first-choice keeper, the club would see themselves ultimately relegated, after finishing in nineteenth.

They also conceded the second most goals of any team in last season’s Premier League season.

The appearances Bachmann made in the league over this past season were his first in the Premier League, however he also spent time at Stoke City when they were in the division.

After starting only 12 Premier League games for Watford last season, Bachmann has slipped down the pecking order in the Austrian national team.

Despite being the starting keeper for the team’s Euro 2020 campaign, he has since seen his starting role placed in jeopardy.

Additionally, it was noted by Romano that Bachmann’s potential arrival will also see Dean Henderson depart the Manchester club.

Henderson, who has struggled with game time since his battle with COVID-19 two seasons ago, is reportedly set to join newly promoted Nottingham Forest on loan.

The Englishman made just three appearances for United last season, despite previously being tipped as a potential starter for both club and country.

If Bachmann is to join United, it looks like it won’t be too long before he’s joined by several others.

Reports earlier this week have suggested that United are closing in on one of two Ajax stars, with both Antony and Jurrien Timber very high on new United boss Erik ten Hag’s summer shopping list.

Additionally, it seems that United are preparing their second bid for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong. The Dutchman, who was a part of the 2019 UEFA Team of the Year, has reportedly come round to the idea of moving to Old Trafford from the Nou Camp.

Truth be told, whoever United sign they will hope for a better turn out than several of their more recent purchases. Additions such as Donny van de Beek, and Alex Telles not hitting the ground running, the time is now for United to get new signings right.
