Manchester United are closing in on their first summer signing, with Ederson reportedly scheduled to undergo a medical on Sunday.
United are preparing for a major midfield overhaul during the summer transfer window, with as many as three new arrivals expected in that area of the pitch.
Michael Carrick has made midfield reinforcements a priority this summer, while the club could also target a striker, full-back and goalkeeper to strengthen the squad.
The first of those additions appears to be nearing completion, with United having already agreed a £35 million deal with Italian side Atalanta for Brazil midfielder Ederson. Club sources expect the transfer to be finalised in early July, shortly before the squad returns for pre-season training.

The 26-year-old is currently away with the Brazil national team at the World Cup and was an unused substitute in Saturday night's 1-1 draw with Morocco.
Despite his international commitments, Ederson is still expected to complete medical tests ahead of his move to Old Trafford. According to Corriere dello Sport, the midfielder will undergo his medical in New York on Sunday, leaving only the signing of his contract before the deal is officially completed.
United 'eye' World Cup star who is 'better' than Rodri
While United continue to prioritise players with Premier League experience, they could also explore a move for Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams this summer.
The Daily Mail reports that United's data department are big admirers of the United States international, believing he outperforms Manchester City star Rodri in certain aspects of the game.
Several Premier League clubs are understood to be monitoring the 27-year-old, who enjoyed another impressive campaign in the top flight. With Adams under contract until 2028, Bournemouth are under little pressure to sell their World Cup star this summer.
Chelsea are said to be long-term admirers of the versatile midfielder, while Liverpool could also enter the race following the appointment of former Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola.
Speaking to NBC in October 2025, Iraola was full of praise for Adams.
“Tyler is a competitor. He’s a great leader. You have to challenge Tyler. Even in training, he’s going to complain if any decision doesn’t go to his side.
“But I love these kinds of characters. They want even more. He’s all the time focused. He’s a captain, you can see. He’s been in a leadership position in all the teams he’s played for.”
