Two Manchester United Players Could Be Unavailable For Opening Pre-Season Game vs Liverpool

Two Manchester United Players Could Be Unavailable For Opening Pre-Season Game vs Liverpool

There are two defenders who could miss the opening game of pre-season.

Manchester United had an open training session at the Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok ahead of their pre-season opener against Liverpool on Tuesday.

This came after Erik ten Hag spoke to a packed press room in the morning.

He discussed the captaincy, Cristiano Ronaldo's situation and more, before he went off to lead the session in the 51,000 seater stadium.

As the team were training in front of a small crowd, it became aware that two players were missing from the United group session.

Harry Maguire was training individually, as he carries an injury.

This will likely mean that he is left out of the squad for the match tomorrow against Liverpool.

Meanwhile, Raphael Varane was not sighted training with the squad, or individually.

He trained in the morning session, but it is unknown whether he picked up a knock or if there is another explanation.

The two players both were involved in international fixtures over the summer.

Varane did exit the France squad early due to picking up a small injury during their Nations League fixture against Denmark.

However, it was unlikely either defender would've played a large role in the game, where it is expected that there will be a wholesale of changes throughout.

Axel Tuanzebe and Victor Lindelöf will most likely be involved heavily in the game though, because of these potential absences.

They are the only two other centre-back's on the tour.

Phil Jones was left at Carrington to continue a specialist pre-season programme to ensure he is best prepared for the campaign ahead, whether that be at Old Trafford or elsewhere.

Ten Hag spoke on Harry Maguire in his press conference, when asked if he would captain the team next season.

"Harry Maguire is the captain," Ten Hag proclaimed.

"I have to get to know all of the players, but he's an established captain and he's achieved a lot of success." He added.
