Sean Strickland regained the UFC Middleweight Championship after a shock victory against Khamzat Chimaev at UFC 328.
Strickland weathered an early storm in round one against Chimaev who took him down with ease and maintained ground control for over four minutes of the five minute round.
But the tide turned in round two with Strickland’s takedown defence and laser-accurate jab stopping Chimaev in his tracks.
The bout turned into a stand up war with Chimaev not shooting a takedown in a round for the first time in six fights in round three. Strickland continued to land his jab effectively to seal a split decision victory and hand Chimaev his first career defeat.

The build up to the contest was marred with derogatory remarks from both parties and threatened to turn ugly but the pair appeared to reconcile after the five-round war with the Russian-Emirati wrapping his belt around Strickland after Bruce Buffer revealed the fight result.
During his post-fight media duties on the Paramount post-show, Strickland caught a glimpse of his appearance and was left shocked.
“Oh f***,” he said while sitting at the desk. “Jesus Christ, dude. I’m an ugly mother******. Oh my god. What happened to my face? Looking like a horror movie. I look like I’m part of AIPAC.”
Strickland posts new injury picture
The American has now posted a new injury picture to his Instagram account, showcasing the brutal aftermath of his bout with Chimaev.
He captioned the image: “Best job in the world.”

The two-time middleweight champion explained in his post-fight press conference that he was dealing with an injury heading into the main event after training with PFL star Johnny Eblen.
He said: “He shoots on me and I hit this brick a** wall and separated my shoulder.
"I had a Grade 1 AC joint separation, and I remember lying in bed on Tuesday night, can't lie on my left side, I'm like, 'You’re such a f***ing idiot.'
“In the back, I like to get better warmups, but I didn't wanna warm up and throw my shoulder out.”
Chimaev tweeted Strickland telling him he would ‘see him soon’ but has already indicated he might be seeking a move to light heavyweight.
