Conor McGregor threw a kick at Dustin Poirier during the pair's face off ahead of their trilogy fight at UFC 264 on Sunday.

In the midst of a heated face-off, McGregor tried to kick Poirier as things heated up in the lead up to the end of their fight saga.

The pair haven't been shy of an exchange of words or any other attempt to unsettle their opponent down the years, even if things were more civil for the second fight back in January.

Most recently, McGregor unearthed an Instagram direct message from Poirier's wife in a bid to unsettle 'The Diamond'.

In the video, McGregor can be seen in a fighting stance while Poirier poses calmly appearing to wind up the Irishman with a few choice words.

The Irishman then appeared to be unnerved by a comment and lunged forward to kick his rival before UFC president Dana White separated the two lightweight contenders.

The pair are set for their third bout this Saturday in a much-anticipated clash.

McGregor won the first fight with a straight-forward first round TKO. Whilst, Poirier then won the rematch with a second-round TKO.

The win in the second fight allowed the American to land the best blow of the press conference on Thursday night, which is usually his rival's speciality.

Asked about being kind to the Diamond ahead of the second fight but now going back to his usual self, Poirier intervened and answered, "Because he got knocked the f**k out."

Ahead of the second fight, the two men swapped pleasantries about their respective businesses, McGregor's Proper Twelve whiskey and Poirier's hot sauce.

However on Thursday, the former two weight champ was not in such a nice mood an threw the hot sauce off the stage.

Certainly they're both bringing the spice ahead of Saturday night's clash!
