Joe Rogan has argued for fascinating alternative to Justin Gaethje's UFC rule change demand

UFC commentator Joe Rogan has already explained how he would change the judging of fights after Justin Gaethje suggested a major overhaul.

Gaethje came up with a radical idea to change how UFC judging panels are formed and wants it to be implemented following his Freedom 250 victory over Ilia Topuria.

The 37-year-old is now the unified UFC Lightweight Champion as a result of that victory and has big ideas in mind for the future of MMA.

What UFC rule change is Justin Gaethje proposing?

Speaking on the 'Double Coverage' podcast, Gaethje explained that he wants the number of judges that score a fight to be increased from three to a staggering total of 51.

He said that such a change would remove the human error factor from the overall scoring results, and that the scores would be more accurate if they take them from a greater average of judges instead.

And that is not all. Gaethje believes that up to half of the judges should be positioned outside of the arena to eliminate any biases.

"They need more people," he stated. "Right now, it takes two people to f--- everything up. With 51 people it would take 26 people to f--- everything up.

"Put half of them in the arena, half of them out of the arena and then you come up with something with a greater number of people. We need to remove them from the atmosphere because they're humans. It's impossible not to have feelings, thoughts, biases."

Joe Rogan's solution to UFC judging issues

UFC commentator Rogan, who famously hosts his own hugely successful podcast, first pitched a major change to the UFC judging system all the way back in 2019.

Rogan said he believed that the 10-point-per-round system 'sucks' and argued that the judges currently in place should be replaced by former fighters - but did state at the time that he thought the amount of judges should increase.

"The judges should at least have some martial arts experience, and I know there's a bunch of them that have never even trained, they just took some courses," he said. "It's horrible and they don't do anything about it.

"You know what they need to do? They should hire ex-fighters. It's like passing a written test but never having driven a car. We should have more than three judges. Nine would be a good number, because nine would be a tiebreaker if you had four one way, four the other way. I feel like three is ridiculous. Why do you only have three? You know the judges suck already so why do you only have three people that suck?"
