Fans were left baffled by one contestant’s answer during a special episode of the popular quiz show ‘The Weakest Link’.

The episode, aired on BBC in January 2024, was hosted by comedian Romesh Ranganathan.

The show included appearances from several radio hosts such as Vicky Hawkesworth, Fi Glover, Rick Edwards, Snoochie Shy and Owain Wyn Evans.

And viewers were left stunned by one contestant’s answer to a sports-related question.

If you are not familiar with the show, a brief explanation of the rules is below.

"The game begins with ten contestants who take turns answering general knowledge questions within a time limit to create chains of eight correct answers in a row," according to Fandom.com.

"At the end of each round, the players then publicly vote one contestant, "the weakest link", out of the game. After two players are left, they play in a head-to-head penalty shootout format, with five questions asked to each contestant in turn, to determine the winner."

Hawkesworth, 28, is best known for her work presenting BBC Radio 1, but her sporting knowledge is clearly not at the high level her broadcasting is.

"In sport, the US-born tennis player who in the 1990s won all four Grand Slams and an Olympic gold medal is Andre who?” asked Romesh.

And many of you will instantly know the answer to this question.

But, unfortunately for Hawkesworth, she couldn’t have been further from the correct answer when she answered: "The giant."

The name the presenter was looking for was, in fact, Andre Agassi, an eight-time Grand Slam champion, who is widely considered to be one of the greatest tennis players of all time.

Andre “The Giant” – formerly André René Roussimoff – was a French professional wrestler best known for his time in the WWF.

Roussimoff, who died in 1993 aged 46, stood at seven feet four inches. He had a condition called gigantism, which is caused by over-production of human growth hormone in childhood.

Fans on social media were quick to voice their amusement at Hawkesworth’s answer.

One fan said: “Unbelievable. What an answer. Was in tears.”

A second added: "The boy next to her just about folded."

While a third quipped: "Hahaha I just watched this incredible answer. Imagine Andre The Giant on centre court."

As a fourth joked: "Just saw this and spat my tea out."

Hawkesworth took to X after the episode released and clearly saw the funny side of her incorrect answer.

"How do we know he didn’t play tennis in his spare time?!" wrote Hawkesworth.

"Well I knew it couldn’t be Peter Andre so this was the next best guess!"
