Gabriel Langton seen for the first time since sickening head-first fall at Commonwealth Games

Gabriel Langton has been spotted for the first time since his horrific head-first fall at the Commonwealth Games.

Langton was taking part in the men's gymnastics final on Friday night but, in one of the most sickening moments of the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, the 19-year-old fell head first after missing his catch on the three-metre high metal horizontal bar.

The competition was immediately suspended so that Langton could receive medical treatment, and he was later stretchered away from the arena and taken to hospital.

“We are grateful to the medical teams who responded immediately to provide assistance,” Team England said in a statement on Friday.

“He has been taken to hospital, and we will share more information when it is available.”

The teenager was only called up to the Games on short notice, replacing six-time Olympic gold medallist Max Whitlock.

Langton's teammates Luke Whitehouse, Joshan Nathan, Adam Tobin and Alexander Yolshin-Cash all made him proud, as they stood on the podium to receive their silver medal, with Canada claiming a gold medal in the event for the first time in two decades.

More importantly, British Gymnastics released a positive statement on Langton's health on Saturday evening, which read: “Gabriel was transferred to hospital as a precautionary measure overnight and underwent multiple scans today, with very positive results.

"Thankfully, he has been cleared of any serious injury complications and will be discharged to return to the team hotel this evening.

“He is in good spirits and hugely grateful for the many messages of support and the excellent care provided by the medical teams. He is looking forward to being reunited with the team to celebrate his silver medal.

“He will be discharged to the team hotel under the care of the Team England medical team this evening.”

Langton has since been under care from the Team England medical department after being discharged, with another promising update emerging.

Gabriel Langton spotted at Team England hotel

A sickening head-first fall would have had everyone worried at the time, but in a heartwarming update from Team England's Instagram, Langton was pictured with the silver medal around his neck.

"It’s amazing to see Gabriel Langton back at the team hotel with his silver medal. Thanks to everyone for all your support! #Glasgow2026," the caption read.

Langton's focus will now be on making a full recovery, with no official timeline set for his return to competition.

Day three of the Commonwealth Games has continued on Sunday with some exciting action taking centre stage, including the swimming heats, with the women’s 100m free, slowest 1500m free prelim and the 100m fly.

The men’s agenda included the 50m breast, 200m back and 4x200m free relay.

Other notable sports available to watch are netball, the final of the men's 60kg weightlifting, and boxing, all before lunchtime.

Then there is the final of the men's all-round gymnastics later on in the day, along with the women's 48kg weightlifting final, as the event promises to deliver more drama.

The Commonwealth Games run until August 2.
