NBA star Steph Curry has already spoken out about closing the pay gap with the top players in the WNBA as all-time scoring leader Taurasi made a shocking claim about her career.

In recent weeks, several of the biggest players playing in the WNBA have spoken out about the pay within women's basketball, pointing out the huge gap between them and players in the NBA.

During the warm up for the last weekend's WNBA All-Star game , Chicago Sky player Angel Reese and several other player wore all-black t-shirts with the message 'pay us what you owe us'.

The protest came just days after the Los Angeles Lakers announced that star player Luka Doncic had penned a new deal that would see him earn $165million across three years, taking his annual earnings to around $55m.

Having been named MVP on two occasions in a career that saw him win four NBA Championship titles and an Olympic gold medal, Curry is widely regarded as one of the best players in the sport.

Therefore, his endorsement of the closing of the pay gap while writing on Women's Equality Day in 2018 carries a lot of weight.

He wrote in the Players’ Tribune: “I think it’s important that we all come together to figure out how we can make that possible, as soon as possible.

“Not just as ‘fathers of daughters,’ or for those sorts of reasons.

"And not just on Women’s Equality Day. Every day – that’s when we need to be working to close the pay gap in this country.

"Because every day is when the pay gap is affecting women. And every day is when the pay gap is sending the wrong message to women about who they are, and how they’re valued, and what they can or cannot become.”

Diana Taurasi claims that the arena janitor made more money than her

"I’m the best player in the world, and I have to go to a communist country to get paid like a capitalist," Taurasi said, speaking about her time travelling to play in Russia.

"The f---ing janitor at the arena made more than me."

Speaking on a 2019 episode of the 30 for 30 podcast, Taurasi opened up more about this claim, revealing: "Forty-five thousand? That’s what I’m going to make? That’s what I’m going to make after four years of playing at the most prestigious basketball college?

"That’s what I’m going to make? I mean, the janitors are going to make more than me. The guy who takes the floor out and puts it back … he’s going to be making more than me."
