Fans destroy Joey Barton over his claim he would score 100/100 penalties against Mary Earps

Fans destroy Joey Barton over his claim he would score 100/100 penalties against Mary Earps

Fans were quick to silence Barton over his claims.

Joey Barton has been hilariously destroyed on social media following a recent claim he would score '100 out of 100' penalties against England Women's goalkeeper Mary Earps.

Ever since his recent sacking from League One side Bristol Rovers, Barton has continued to become embroiled with spats criticising the women's game, with his latest message aimed at recent Sports Personality of the Year winner Earps.

The 41-year-old also recently lambasted female pundits in the game, with Alex Scott and Laura Woods both taking a stand in the weeks that followed.

However, the internet has once again come to the rescue, with Barton's claims regarding his spot-kick abilities quickly quashed as supporters began to dig through the archives on X, formerly known as Twitter.

A penalty against Aston Villa from 2007 from his days with Manchester City quickly surfaced, with the now-retired midfielder blazing his effort over the bar from 12 yards out.

A pre-season penalty against Deportivo La Coruna from 2010 also proved popular, with Barton also missing the rebound, further dismissing any claims he could complete a perfect record against Manchester United Women's No.1.

Fans jumped to the praise of Earps in the aftermath, with many - including Piers Morgan - suggesting the former Fleetwood boss should indeed put his money where his mouth is.

''Another day, another example of @Joey7Barton getting utterly rinsed on the internet," wrote one user via X.

''He just doesn't think before he speaks," added another.

"Barton couldn't score 10/10 if he had an empty goal in front of him," joked @carpman1976.

Barton has since been out of work following his dismissal from Rovers earlier this year and has since launched his own podcast named 'The Common Sense Podcast'.

He has also featured on Morgan's talk show explaining his views on women in football, with the likelihood of him now landing a job in football once more seemingly very slim indeed.
