Wayne Rooney has said he "finds it strange" that the manner of Manchester City's 2011/12 title win has "never been questioned".

Ten years ago, City pipped rivals United to the title - their first in 44 years - on goal difference after Sergio Aguero scored a 93rd minute winner against QPR.

Rooney had scored the only goal of the game as United beat Sunderland 1-0 and fans at the Stadium of Light were wounded when they heard the news that City had scored two goals in stoppage time in the most dramatic finale to a Premier League season.

QPR, who were down to ten men after Joey Barton, stayed up despite the 3-2 defeat as Bolton could only manage a 2-2 draw.

But even all these years later, Rooney takes issue with QPR kicking the ball back straight back to City after Edin Dzeko, while he was also critical of Paddy Kenny's display.

The former Sheffield United goalkeeper made a number of superb saves but was at fault for Pablo Zabaleta's opener.

"Paddy Kenny should have done better for a couple of the goals," Rooney told The Sun.

"City get the second goal and QPR kick it straight back to them and that's never been questioned - I find that strange.

"Djibril Cisse celebrating after the game with the City players, but yeah listen it's a historic moment in the Premier League so I'm sure that - if you are not involved as a Manchester United player, that's probably one of the greatest moments in the league."

"One of the greatest goals in Premier League history" 🙌

"It's still remarkable" 🔥

"Paddy Kenny should've done better" 😂

Aguero, who is City's record goalscorer with 260 goals, has had a statue created of his celebration vs QPR to mark the moment's ten-year anniversary.

It is situated outside the Etihad Stadium, near sculptures of fellow legends Vincent Kompany and David Silva.

“Truthfully, it is a very beautiful thing for me, to see myself 10 years ago is very moving," Aguero told the official Manchester City website.

In those 10 years I was able to win a lot of trophies and was able to help the club become one of the most important in the world.

"I am very grateful to the club for making this statue in recognition of my football career in Manchester. It is something very special.”

The club also put on event in Manchester with 2,000 fans watching the iconic game alongside many of the stars from that season, including Aguero.
