Ruben Amorim is keen on bringing a current Manchester United star to his new club, AC Milan, as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of his maiden Serie A campaign.
Amorim was appointed AC Milan head coach in June, having previously been without a job since January, when he was sacked by Manchester United.
The Portuguese left United after seemingly calling out the club’s hierarchy following a 1-1 draw against Leeds United at Elland Road in January.
He was subsequently replaced by then-interim head coach Michael Carrick, with the Englishman guiding the Old Trafford club to a third-place Premier League finish and, in doing so, securing Champions League qualification.

Despite links with several jobs, including Benfica and Fulham, Amorim will attempt to guide the Rossoneri to success next term after the Italian giants finished fifth in Serie A last season under the tutelage of Massimiliano Allegri.

In order to bolster his squad, it appears Amorim is keen to link up with one of his former players, whom he once dubbed “the future of our team” during his time at United.
As per Italian journalist Matteo Moretto, who spoke on Fabrizio Romano’s YouTube channel, Amorim is interested in signing Moroccan right-back Noussair Mazraoui.
He explained: “Noussair Mazraoui is one of Amorim’s favourites. As of now, there are no negotiations underway, there’s no direct contact between the clubs.
“But what I can tell you is that certainly Mazraoui, who is 28 years old and has a contract expiring in 2028, with the club holding an option to extend it by a further year, is a player highly regarded by Amorim. Let’s see if he is targeted by Milan later in the window. As of today, I’m talking about the manager’s approval of him – Amorim appreciates Mazraoui’s qualities.”
Since arriving at United from Bayern Munich for £17 million in 2024, the full-back has made 77 appearances, although he has struggled to nail down a starting spot under Carrick, with the head coach appearing to favour Diogo Dalot on the right side of defence.
Mazraoui, who was part of the Morocco squad that reached the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, is contracted to United until 2028, with the club holding an option to extend his deal by a further year.
Ruben Amorim's true feelings on Mazraoui
Despite falling down the pecking order under Carrick, Amorim has already made clear that he values the 28-year-old for his versatility, with his ability to play in a back five seen as a valuable asset.
Speaking in 2024, Amorim described Mazraoui as a “top player”, saying: “He understands the game. He knows how to attack, he’s very technical, he’s very good defensively and he’s very good one-on-one. He’s a modern player. I think he’s the future of our team. When you think about him, you think we need more players like Nous who can control the tempo. They are really, really good and comfortable with the ball. So, Nous, I’m really happy with him.”
It was also widely reported that Amorim was keen on Mason Mount, Amad Diallo and Manuel Ugarte, although the latter is now likely to stay at Old Trafford after sustaining a knee ligament injury while playing for Uruguay at the World Cup.
The transfer window closes at 11 pm on September 1.
