Mohamed Salah, set to leave Liverpool this summer, will use this summer’s World Cup to decide where the future of his club career lies.

Mohamed Salah announced his Anfield exit in March, ending a nine-year reign on Merseyside that saw the Liverpool superstar win nearly every trophy available to him.

The Egyptian — whose exploits last season won Liverpool the Premier League title — negotiated a contract extension in 2025 set to run for two years, but reached a mutual termination agreement with the club to render him a free agent this summer.

The four-time Golden Boot winner was rumoured to have played his last game for the Reds after a hamstring injury saw him leave the pitch early against Crystal Palace last weekend, but it has since been revealed that he will feature again for Liverpool this season.

In the race for his signature, Salah was recently linked with Turkish side Fenerbahce, who are offering the Egyptian a €20 million annual salary in exchange for his services.

But according to a report from TEAMtalk, Salah will consider a new destination during this summer’s World Cup - Major League Soccer.

The MLS are interested in bringing the Liverpool winger — who finished fourth in the 2025 Ballon D’or — to their league, with San Diego FC emerging as the most likely destination.

Salah, who will captain Egypt at this summer’s tournament, will use his time in the United States to decide the future of his club career.

Sources have indicated that the Egyptian’s family will be present with him for the World Cup, and they will use the time to explore what life could look like for them across the Atlantic.

While the Saudi Pro League has long been renowned as the most financially lucrative move for any ageing superstar, the MLS is also perceived by Salah as an appealing destination.

The Egyptian will now weigh up the individual benefits of many offers for his signature, from staying in Europe to continue competing at the highest level of football, to the commercial benefits of moves to the Saudi Pro League or MLS.

Earlier this week, the media coordinator for the Egyptian national team, Muhammad Murad, revealed that Salah could come to a decision and announce his next destination within days.

San Diego FC is owned by Egyptian-British millionaire Mohamed Mansour, who has not stayed silent in his admiration for Mohamed Salah.

“He’s probably one of the great players of today. And any team that will get him, or any country that will get him, he will definitely be an asset,” said Mansour, speaking earlier this year.

For now, Liverpool fans and long-time followers of the Egyptian’s career will await his decision, with the World Cup set to play a crucial role in a potential MLS arrival.
