Mohamed Salah is prepared to reject a lucrative transfer to the Saudi Pro League and remain in Europe with an unexpected club.

Salah announced he'd be calling time on his nine-year spell with Liverpool last month.

The Egypt international's contract was set to run until 2027 after he put pen to paper on an extension last summer, but the club will allow him to depart on a free transfer.

He came off injured during last weekend's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace with a hamstring issue, leaving many worried he'd already featured in his Anfield swansong.

Salah is expected to return before the end of the campaign and bid farewell on his own terms. He's yet to officially confirm what's next, with several clubs vying for his signature.

A move to the Saudi Pro League has been on the table for several years. The PIF see Salah as the perfect candidate to help raise the league's notoriety. Salah could take up the mantle from Cristiano Ronaldo, who is spending the twilight of his career with Al-Nassr in the Middle East.

However, the 33-year-old isn't ready to bring his 14-year stint in Europe to a close just yet. Per Turkish outlet A Spor, Fenerbahce have held two meetings with Salah's agent and have learned his salary expectations of around £333,000-per-week. That's not too far from his current wages on Merseyside, which makes Salah one of the highest-earning players in England.

Fenerbahce have recruited several high-profile players from across world football this season. Among their ranks are former Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson, ex-Bayern Munich man Leroy Sane and World Cup winner N'Golo Kante.
