A shock club are reportedly keen on signing Mohamed Salah after the breakdown in the Egyptian’s relationship with Liverpool boss Arne Slot.
Salah is currently at AFCON, during which he has helped Egypt progress through the group stage to the round of 16 by netting twice in his two appearances at the tournament.
Of course, ahead of the tournament, he gave a hugely controversial interview to journalists gathered in the mixed zone after Liverpool’s 3-3 draw away at Leeds United on December 6.
During the fiery interview, the 33-year-old, who signed a contract extension at Liverpool earlier in 2025, keeping him at the club until 2027, claimed that he felt he’d been “thrown under the bus” by the Merseyside club.

At the time, he had been benched for three successive games, which caused him to think that “someone wanted him to get all of the blame” for Liverpool’s poor form during the first half of the 2025/26 campaign.

Salah was left out of the squad for the subsequent match against Inter before making a substitute appearance against Brighton on December 13, with many suggesting this was his final appearance for the Reds.
Despite currently being on a different continent with full focus on helping his country win AFCON, once he returns, Salah’s future will again be a topic of interest.
As reported by Teamtalk, some sources have made it clear that Salah is unlikely to leave Liverpool during the winter window, which opens on January 1, although there is a growing feeling that he could leave during the summer.
However, a contrary report from Italian outlet La Repubblica claims that Salah’s former club AS Roma are supposedly ‘toying with the idea’ of moving for the out-of-favour goalscorer.
Due to Salah’s reported £400,000 per week salary, the Italian club class the potential move as a ‘dream’ while the likelihood of the player joining a Saudi Arabian club remains a possibility.
Meanwhile, Football Italia reports that Liverpool would be willing to consider a loan deal in January, while the financial side of the deal may be tough to negotiate.

Salah reportedly earns around £21 million per year, meaning that if Roma cover his salary for six months, this will set them back by £12 million. Roma’s current highest earner is Paulo Dybala, who pockets around £217,000 per week, according to Capology.
Salah registered 34 goals and 21 assists in 83 appearances for Roma between 2015 and 2017 before he signed for Liverpool for a reported £34 million that summer.
Roma are currently fourth in Serie A, three points behind leaders Inter.
Meanwhile, since Salah departed for AFCON, Liverpool have won both of their matches - against Spurs and Wolves - with the Reds fourth in the Premier League.
