A Premier League club is monitoring Wolves star Matheus Cunha days before the January transfer window opens, it has been reported.

Cunha, 25, has been Wolves' star man in what has been a largely difficult Premier League season, with ten goals and four assists in 18 appearances.

He scored in Wolves' 3-0 win over Leicester last Sunday in what was new manager Vitor Pereira's first game in charge before finding the net against Manchester United during the 2-0 win on Boxing Day.

The Brazilian does face the threat of an FA ban, having been charged with misconduct after an incident following his side's 2-1 defeat to Ipswich.

But the FA have yet to reach a verdict on the charge, meaning Cunha was free to play against Manchester United at Molineux on Thursday evening.

And there was scouts from a Premier League club watching closely.

That's according to The Athletic, who claim that Arsenal are 'long-term admirers' of Cunha and are 'monitoring' his situation at Wolves.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is searching for solutions after Bukayo Saka suffered a hamstring injury against Crystal Palace which will see him miss 'many weeks' after limping off during the Gunners' 5-1 win at Selhurst Park last Saturday.

The Spaniard said he was 'putting some ideas together' to cope with the 23-year-old's absence, though Cunha is not believed to be the top target at present.

However, if the Brazilian can continue to produce fine displays like he did against United, Arsenal may yet launch a bid for the former Atletico Madrid star depending on Saka's recovery timeline.

French outlet Jeunes Footeux report, however, that PSG are also keen on signing Cunha, and may beat Arsenal to securing his signature if they do not act fast.

Arsenal didn't complete a January signing last season but did sign Leandro Trossard from Brighton in January 2023, having pursued Shakhtar Donetsk star Mykhailo Mudryk for much of the window before the Ukrainian signed for London rivals Chelsea.

Journalist Henry Winter even suggested that Cunha and his Wolves colleague Rayan Ait-Nouri "would instantly improve Manchester United’s left side" especially in Ruben Amorim's 3-4-2-1 (3-5-2) formation.

The 25-year-old Brazilian international's current Wolves contract is set to run until the summer of 2027.
