Man United make double Deadline Day decision as two transfers called off within minutes

Michael Carrick has been busy attempting to strengthen his Manchester United squad this summer as he prepares to fight for silverware in his first full season as manager.

The Red Devils have already added several talented individuals to their squad this transfer window as they spent heavily to acquire Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, and Carlos Baleba.

As we entered Deadline Day, United were linked with several transfers, but as we edge closer to the closure of the transfer window, two of the deals have been called off.

United appeared to be about to add a player who has been playing football on a regular basis since the age of 17 after making his debut last season.

However, the deal for United to sign Leicester City’s Louis Page has been reported by The Athletic to have fallen through.

He has made 25 appearances at senior level despite only being 18 years old, and it was expected that the deal would be in the region of £10 million; however, this has now fallen through if the reports are to be believed.

This news comes as Page makes his first start of the season in League One this campaign for the Foxes against Plymouth Argyle.

Leicester manager Russell Martin appeared hesitant to give Page time on the pitch until his future had been confirmed, and so that will explain why he is featuring against Plymouth.

Martin appears to be a fan from the comments he made on Sky Sports after he was asked about the future of the 18-year-old at the club, following the interest from United.

He said: “Louis [Page] is a really fantastic young player. Obviously, I know the director of football [Jason Wilcox] at Manchester United very well after spending some time with Southampton. We haven't actually spoke on Louis because he probably knows what I'd say to him and tell him to go away!

"Until something comes in that is really brilliant for the club and player and everyone is happy, then Louis stays and he's in the squad. I’m really enjoying working with him, he's a fantastic young player.”

Meanwhile, the other transfer to fall through was the exit of fullback Harry Amas, as it has been reported by journalist Nathan Salt that he will not leave the club this summer.

The 19-year-old spent last season out on loan, as he joined Sheffield Wednesday last summer to help the Owls in their time of need when they needed senior players following their financial difficulties.

He impressed in the Steel City as he made 21 appearances, which earned him a move to Norwich City on loan for the remainder of the season after United recalled him, to allow him to develop further in the Championship.

However, his time with the Canaries was not ideal as he only made one appearance, and so his development did not go as planned for United.

Now, he is likely to remain at Old Trafford as an option at left back for Carrick, should the club fail to recruit a player here before the end of the window.
