Man United make shock move for Man City star after latest Deadline Day setback

Manchester United have made a desperate Deadline Day enquiry for a Manchester City star after their latest transfer blow.

There is little over one hour left of the 2026/27 summer transfer window and things aren't slowing down.

While many clubs across England's top-flight have been busy completing deals on the final day of the window, United have been surprisingly quiet, with no players coming in despite several links.

So far this summer, United have revamped their midfield with Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba all joining for a combined £155million, while a free transfer allowed Karl Darlow to join.

However, for many fans these four signings simply are not enough, with many criticising the lack of depth at left-back as a clear hole in the current United squad.

Although he played in all 38 Premier League fixtures last season, Luke Shaw's injury record had United fans hoping that a player like Newcastle United's Lewis Hall could arrive at some point this summer.

Heading into Deadline Day, no such signing had arrived, with some reports suggesting that United had been looking at loan deals, with Barcelona's Alejandro Balde among the options after he was an unused substitute in their 5-2 win over Rayo Vallecano last night

But now, it's been revealed that a new signing at left-back appears to be increasingly unlikely, with a deal for Balde officially off.

According to The Athletic, United also considered a permanent deal for Jorge Salinas, who has a a €16m release clause in his Racing Santander contract.

Atletico Madrid also showed interest in the 19-year-old defender, but his club expect him to stay this summer.

Man United enquire for Manchester City's Rayan Ait-Nouri in daring move

This nightmare scenario has clearly led United to consider more drastic options, with a shock report from talkSPORT revealing that they have made an initial enquiry a surprise move for Algerian left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri.

The report claims that the 25-year-old was offered to United by his agent a few days ago, but United have only made recent contact with their fierce rivals about the logistics of a deal in recent hours.

It is believed that, given how little is left of the window, City would only sanction a loan containing an obligation to buy, a potential roadblock as United do not want a permanent deal.

Ait-Nouri joined City from Wolves last summer to much fanfare, but started just 12 Premier League games before losing his place in the lineup to Nico O'Reilly.
