Deadline Day deal chaos as medical 'issue' could have major domino effect impacting Man United

Everton's Deadline Day is in danger of being a disaster after one of their key targets failed his medical.

David Moyes entered the final day of the transfer window with three key priorities - signing a right-back, winger and striker.

Early on Tuesday (September 1), the Toffees agreed a £4.2 million deal for Lyon right-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles, with the former Arsenal man set to join the club before the window shuts.

A deal was also agreed for Jack Grealish to return on a season-long loan from Manchester City, and the 30-year-old was spotted undergoing his medical at Finch Farm.

In a separate deal, Iliman Ndiaye was officially unveiled as a Man City player at around 9pm on Deadline Day after completing his £65 million switch to the Etihad Stadium, two years after joining Everton from Marseille in a £15 million transfer.

Ndiaye made himself a hero at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after scoring 17 and assisting four in 74 appearances for the club, with his last appearance coming in a 1-1 draw against Bournemouth on Saturday.

The departure of the Senegal international, along with Beto - who joined Fiorentina in a deal worth £15.4 million - only amplified the need for Moyes to sign a striker.

Thierno Barry is currently the Scotsman's only senior centre-forward, and that is why supporters were excited when Everton had agreed to sign Florian Balogun in a £40 million deal from AS Monaco.

Personal terms weren't a problem for the USMNT international, too, as he looked on course to sign a contract at the Hill Dickinson Stadium and return to the Premier League.

However, Fabrizio Romano reported on X late on Tuesday (September 1) that his move to Everton is in 'jeopardy' after failing his medical, despite Monaco and the player's camp insisting that he is fit enough to play.

Everton could sign Joshua Zirkzee instead of Florian Balogun

Although they're 'still working' on a deal to sign the 25-year-old, who scored three times at this summer's World Cup, Sky Sports reporter Danyal Khan has revealed that Everton have made a late offer for Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee.

Zirkzee is looking for an exit route out of Old Trafford as he seeks regular minutes this season. The Dutchman was offered the chance to sign for Fiorentina after holding discussions with the club over an initial loan plus a €30million option to buy.

The 25-year-old snubbed a move to Italy and prefers to stay in the Premier League, with David Ornstein reporting that the wantaway United striker would be 'keen' on a switch to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

In their opening two Premier League games, Zirkzee was an unused substitute, and it's become clear that he must leave the Red Devils to avoid warming the bench.

Man United signed Zirkzee for £36.5 million from Bologna two years ago, and since then, he's only managed nine goals in 75 appearances for the club.

Everton fans will be hoping he can vastly improve on those numbers, should he join in the final hours of the window, but it all depends on whether they can resolve Balogun's medical issue.
