Mykhaylo Mudryk makes transfer decison as Chelsea consider blockbuster move

Mykhaylo Mudryk has submitted a request to Chelsea regarding his future following his return to the squad.

After almost two years, Chelsea forward Mudryk officially returned to the football pitch this summer following a lengthy doping ban.

The 25-year-old last represented Chelsea in November 2024 before an adverse finding in a urine sample resulted in him being handed a four-year suspension.

However, it was recently confirmed that Mudryk had been successful in an appeal of the decision, with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) ruling that 'with immediate effect' he could return to competition.

He has since made three substitute appearances during Chelsea’s pre-season tour, coming off the bench against Juventus, AC Milan and Malaysian club Johor Darul Ta’zim.

Following the confirmation of his return, questions have been raised about Mudryk's future at Chelsea, with fans wondering if the ban had altered the clubs long term plan for the Ukrainian.

As it stands, it appears likely that Mudryk will not continue at Chelsea this season, but reports suggest that he will not leave the club on a permanent deal, but instead go out on loan to get regular minutes and demonstrate has current value following the time away from the pitch.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, several European sides are considering a move for Mudryk this summer, with Chelsea’s sister club Strasbourg among the favourites to secure his signature, alongside several Italian clubs.

But, Romano revealed that such a move would go against the Mudryk's wishes, as the forward has made an official request to stay in the Premier League if he is to leave Chelsea on loan.

Addressing Mudryk’s future at the club during pre-season, new Chelsea boss Xabi Alonso said: "Everything has happened so quick, so the main thing is thinking about the person, to feel that he was back in the group dynamic, part of a team, and we need to assess [how he is doing].

"But for sure, he’s a special player. It’s a special case with him, so we need to be sensitive."

Premier League club linked with blockbuster move for Mykhaylo Mudryk

If Mudryk were to leave Chelsea to join another Premier League side on loan this season, fans would no doubt be eager to see how he would get on in his return to the English top-flight.

And it appears that the newly-promoted Coventry City may be the most likely club to offer the Ukraine international this chance, thanks to Mudryk's relationship with current manager Frank Lampard.

Lampard worked with Mudryk during his spell as second spell as Chelsea boss in 2023 and, according to TeamTalk, the former England star is keen on a reunion with the forward.

And it wouldn't be the first time that Lampard tried to sign Mudryk, as back in 2023 he admitted that he had previously tried to sign him during his spell as Everton head coach.

"Pace is a huge strength, and his technical ability when he dribbles and his finishing," Lampard said on the Sky Sports.

"We used to train a lot, and he’s a compulsive finisher, in a positive way.

"He’s out after training, and he wants to shoot. He’s a very good finisher, and I know we haven’t seen that, but you have to come back and say that this young boy has moved into the Premier League, and it’s different.

"The areas in which I have seen him – at Everton we actually wanted to buy him, it was probably never going to happen – and he moved on to Chelsea, but I have seen a lot of him and when he is wide it is natural you get the ball to his feet but now people are very aware of this from him, the pace, and they will try and stop him."

If Mudryk joined Covnetry he would follow Frank Onyeka, Aurele Amenda, Loum Tchaouna, Caleb Yirenkyi and Carl Rushworth who have all joined on permanent deals in what has been a busy summer for the Sky Blues.
