Casemiro could be set to miss out on the opportunity to reunite with one of the 'greatest' players of his generation amid links he will leave Manchester United.

Despite enjoying an impressive first season with United, Casemiro has failed to make his mark at Old Trafford, losing his place as a regular starter.

His lacklustre performances, coupled with his high wages, has led to several rumours suggesting that the Brazilian could be set to depart United in the near future.

However, if Casemiro is to leave United, he could narrowly miss out on the chance to once again play alongside a player who he once labelled as one of the greatest of this generation.

While speaking to Brazilian magazine Placar earlier this year, Casemiro named former Real Madrid and Manchester United teammate Cristiano Ronaldo alongside Neymar and Lionel Messi.

"I had the pleasure of seeing Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar, who are the three greatest of my generation," explained the 32-year-old.

"I saw Ronaldo [Nazario], I saw Zinedine Zidane. But without a doubt, these three are the best of my time.

"I never played against Cristiano, thank God! He gave me many titles and victories."

But, the midfielder's fear could come true as rumours from 90min claim that several Saudi Pro League clubs are interested in signing Casemiro in January.

And, while a transfer to Al Nassr would offer a reunion with Ronaldo, should he join any other Saudi club, then he will learn exactly what it feels like to play against the Portuguese striker.

However, if Casemiro is to join the Saudi Pro League, he may arrive too late to once again meet Ronaldo, as recent rumours have suggested that 39-year-old could be set to leave the league two years after joining it.

As it stands, the striker's contract with Al Nassr is set to expire in the summer, meaning that from January 1 Ronaldo will be free to begin negotiating with other clubs ahead to set up a potential summer move.

As reported by Marca, the 39-year-old could consider leaving Al-Nassr, and if he decides he will not sign a new deal with the Saudi club, then the could be forced to sell him to avoid losing him on a free transfer.
