Ruben Amorim has already 'decided' the Manchester United player he needs to replace and has the perfect target in mind.

Amorim, who was appointed to replace Erik ten Hag, will take charge of his first Man United game on Sunday when his new side face Ipswich Town.

He's overseen the first training sessions at Man United and has been left 'stunned' by ONE thing.

Amorim has a few weeks at Old Trafford before the January transfer window opens, where he will operate on a modest budget compared to Ten Hag.

But the Portuguese gaffer appears to be plotting a transfer for next summer and it could spell the end for Casemiro, who came under intense criticism towards the end of last season.

Casemiro, 32, was strongly linked with a move away from the club ahead of the new season.

However, a move failed to transpire, with the veteran Brazilian making 16 appearances across all competitions this campaign.

His future, though, appears to lie away from Man United as Amorim is keeping tabs on Angel Gomes, who is liked by club chiefs Dan Ashworth and Jason Wilcox, according to The Sun.

Ashworth and Wilcox believe Gomes can be a crucial part of Amorim's masterplan for success.

Gomes left Man United on a free transfer in the summer of 2020 and joined Lille on a five-year deal.

But his contract with the French side expires next summer, meaning Man United could pounce for their former player without having to pay a transfer fee.

Lille are resigned to losing the 24-year-old, with Tottenham also keeping tabs on the star midfielder.

He can speak to clubs in January about signing a pre-contract agreement.

In a previous interview with L'Equipe back in 2023, Gomes opened the door to a sensational return to his boyhood club.

"It was a very difficult decision [to leave United]. In my heart, I wanted to leave, in my head, I was thinking of staying. But I had to follow my heart. I felt that I needed to take another step in my career," he said.

"Do I imagine myself coming back one day? Obviously, it’s home. I would love to come back. But you never know in football. I just have to keep my feet on the ground, and keep playing, making the most of it. I can’t predict what will happen in the future."
