Man Utd 'make contact' with European giants for first January signing as Ruben Amorim stamps his mark

Man Utd 'make contact' with European giants for first January signing as Ruben Amorim stamps his mark

It would be a huge statement of intent from United.

Manchester United have made 'direct contact' with Paris Saint-Germain over a January loan move for one of the most expensive signings in their history.

It looks like new manager Ruben Amorim will operate on a modest budget compared to Erik ten Hag, who spent more than £600 million during his two-and-a-half year spell at Old Trafford..

Earlier this week, it was reported that United are 'unlikely to be particularly active' in the January transfer window unless an opportunity presents itself. Instead, Amorim has been tasked with 'maximising the untapped potential in the squad'.

But it appears an opportunity has indeed presented itself after United made contact with PSG over a January loan move for Randal Kolo Muani.

Kolo Muani, who joined the Ligue 1 side from Eintracht Frankfurt in September last year for £64.2 million plus £12.2 million in add-ons, has struggled to make an impact at the Parc des Princes.

So far this season, the Frenchman has netted just two goals in 12 appearances for Luis Enrique's side, but it appears he has shown enough for United to make a move.

According to Alexis Bernard of Le10sport, the Reds only recently expressed their interest in Muani.

The report mentions United 'lacking finances' to make a permanent move, so a loan request has instead been submitted for the second half of the 2024/25 campaign.

It adds: "Discussions will continue until the end of the year and the choice will be up to the player to 'continue fighting' or try the English adventure, with a brand new coach (Ruben Amorim) who seems to want to trust him."

Speaking in a recent interview with Telefoot, Kolo Muani expressed his desire to stay and fight for his place at PSG.

"No, I've never thought about it," Muani said when asked about a potential departure.

"You have to keep the mentality. It's up to me to keep working so that the coach trusts me. That's part of my story. I've always had to work hard, things have never been easy for me. You can't let up. If you let up, it's over, then you'll go under."
