Ruben Amorim has been tasked with trying to help two players 'thrive' in the coming months as he prepares to take charge of his first game as Manchester United head coach.

The 39-year-old, who will be in the Portman Road dugout on November 24 for United's clash against Ipswich, coached his first training session on Monday following the approval of his visa.

Here, he decided to give 16-year-old defender Godwill Kukonki his first call-up to first-team training following a series of impressive performances at under-18 level.

It could be a sign of things to come, according to the Telegraph, who claim Amorim has been tasked with 'maximising the untapped potential in the squad'.

United's hierarchy believe the current squad are capable of delivering more on the pitch, and two players mentioned in the report are Rasmus Hojlund and Mason Mount.

Hojlund, who joined the club from Atalanta last summer for £72 million, was the club's top goalscorer last season but his overall game is far from perfect. Mount, meanwhile, has been plagued with injury problems since his arrival from Chelsea.

United are hoping that the pair can 'thrive in a new environment under the charismatic Portuguese' as he prepares to make changes.

The report also suggests that Amorim will operate on a more modest budget compared to Erik ten Hag, who spent more than £600 million during his two-and-a-half year tenure.

In fact, United are 'unlikely to be particularly active' in the January transfer window unless an opportunity presents itself.

Back in October, as talks around the next United manager continued to swirl, a report from The Guardian suggested Ten Hag's successor would be handed a 'limited budget' in the January window.

United brought in Joshua Zirkzee, Matthijs de Ligt, Noussair Mazraoui, Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte in the summer, which required a total spend of around £200 million.

As a result, there is only 'modest finance' for the new manager in January as they prepare to adhere with profitability and sustainability rules and potentially balance the books with player sales.

The player named as having the highest value is Marcus Rashford, who is valued at £60 million. Paris Saint-Germain are long-term admirers of the 26-year-old, who has yet to hit the ground running this season.

In regards to players deemed 'not for sale', the young trio of Alejandro Garnacho, Rasmus Hojlund and Kobbie Mainoo are strictly off limits to any interested party.
