Jamie O'Hara prediction about Scott McTominay from six years ago resurfaces and everyone may owe him an apology

The Scotsman is flying in Napoli's midfield

Former Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Jamie O'Hara is seldom shy about his views behind the talkSPORT microphone and his prophetic assessment of a fellow midfield all-rounder has re-emerged.

Scott McTominay left Manchester United to join Napoli last summer and has been an unmitigated success in Serie A.

Only Romelu Lukaku has scored more than McTominay's 11 league goals for the Partenopei and the Scotland international has been heralded as a 'genius' as well as ascending to the exalted status of Napoli icon.

Antonio Conte's side suffered a dent to their Scudetto hopes on Sunday, conceding a late equaliser against Genoa after Inter Milan's victory at Torino on Sunday.

Their lead at the top of Serie A has been cut to a single point with two matches to play and Conte, like hordes of Neapolitans, will be looking to McTominay to drive them home.

Back in 2019, McTominay was a Man Utd midfielder playing in the post-Ferguson era.

While he won the FA Cup and Europa League with the Red Devils and has been a clutch player for Scotland for years, the Lancastrian was often overlooked and underestimated at Old Trafford.

O'Hara predicted more to come.

"He is very, very good, for 22 years of age," said O'Hara.

"For me, he is a future Man Utd captain. I really think he's that good. I think he's going to go on to be there for a long, long time.

"He's been at the club since he was five. It is in his blood, Man Utd."

McTominay's reputation has now caught up with his ability thanks to performances away from his old club but O'Hara's analysis of his quality doesn't sound outlandish in the slightest six years on.

"Going forward, he's got so much to give and, you know, we give Man Utd a bit of a bashing but we've bigged up other players like [Harry] Winks and these young players that are coming through," O'Hara continued.

"But let's not get away from the fact that he's 22 years of age, he's playing for Man Utd in the centre of the park, and I think he's handled himself great.

"I think he's as good as [Jordan] Henderson. And I think he's going to be a better player than Henderson."

Napoli and a rejuvenated McTominay continue their title tilt in their penultimate Serie A fixture against Parma on Sunday.
