A ban on specific kit colours and designs is set to be introduced in Serie A next season

The likes of Juventus, AC Milan and Inter are all set to be impacted by the rule change.

Serie A, Italy's premier football division, is set to introduce a host of new rules which will effectively ban certain kit designs and colours.

According to reports, the changes are being introduced to help with virtual advertising visibility.

One such measure will see green away kits being banned altogether, as otherwise some players will "disappear" from television broadcasts - as per The Sun.

This isn't the only major change, however. The outlet also reports that away strips will now have to be vastly different from home, with a light vs dark contrast needed to help with digital advert clarity.

In order to aid this effort, all Serie A teams will be reduced to just one striped kit - a slight issue in Italy where kits of this nature are especially prevalent.

Having announced the rule change before the New Year, it will officially come into effect from the 2023/24 season onwards. Starting in August 2022, such rules will become mandatory.

However, there is one loop-hole which will help teams like Sassuolo who play in a predominantly green kit.

According to reports, the colour green will be allowed on home strips - for the time being at least.

In addition to these controversial changes, goalkeeper attire will also be expanded to ensure that there are always three different strip options.

This isn't the first time that a ban on green kits in particular has been attempted.

Just last year, a campaign was launched with the intention of banning all green kits in Serie A, but this time on the basis that it was harder to see players wearing them to due to a colour clash with the grass.

One year on, the television companies have managed to garner enough support to force through the change.

While no such plans are being drawn up by the Premier League, concerns over kit colours blending in with its surroundings is nothing new.

Famously, Sir Alex Ferguson insisted that Manchester United change out of their grey away kit at half-time into a blue and white strip for a premier League clash with Southampton in April 1996.

With players reporting that the kit blended in with the watching crowd at The Dell, Ferguson's drastic change resulted in a £10,000 fine for the club.

If you've ever wondered why grey kits are rare in football, now you know.
