Steven Gerrard has agreed a two-year extension as head coach at Al Ettifaq, according to stunning reports.

Gerrard’s new deal will keep him at the Saudi Pro League side until 2027, per The Athletic.

He joined the club in July 2023 following his dismissal at Aston Villa and has struggled for consistency since his arrival despite signing the likes of Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum.

Al Ettifaq are winless in their last eight games and haven't won a game since October. They currently occupy eighth place in the league.

Despite his struggles, the board have reportedly handed him a new deal and remain committed to providing the former England International funds to recruit new players.

The Liverpool legend continues to target his old side for new signings, having been linked with Thiago Alcantara and Joel Matip.

Al Ettifaq's pursuit of Thiago comes after Henderson is set to leave the club, with Ajax in line to acquire his services for the rest of the season.

The Three Lions midfielder has been in the Middle East for just six months following his Anfield departure last summer.

As for Matip, the 32-year-old has been at Liverpool since 2016, but is out of contract this summer.

Al Ettifaq also boast Moussa Dembele, Demarai Gray and Jack Hendry in their ranks.

Prior to taking charge of Villa, Gerrard enjoyed a three-year spell at Rangers, where he guided them to the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020/21 season.

The 43-year-old turned down Al Ettifaq's initial approach before coming around to the idea.
