Real Madrid President Florentino Perez Speaks Out About Kylian Mbappe

Mbappe turned down the move to Real Madrid and the president has claimed he is now a different person, but not shut the door on him.

Florentino Perez has accused Kylian Mbappe of 'changing his dream' after the forward decided to stay at PSG, instead of move to Real Madrid.

The Mbappe saga lasted nearly a year, as Real desperately tried to sign him last summer before he dramatically signed a new deal in Paris instead.

There was anger in Spain over the World Cup winners decision to stay in Ligue 1, with fans chanting about him after their team had won the Champions League final.

Even La Liga got involved, with chief Javier Tebas calling it an 'insult to football,' and there has been a suggestion that it all ended any chance of Mbappe ever moving to the Bernabeu.

One man who will ultimately be part of that decision is Perez, with the all powerful Real chief speaking about the decision for the first time, and claiming the forward was 'not the same' as the player he wanted a year ago.

"His dream was to play at Real Madrid, we wanted to do it last August and they didn't let him leave, he kept saying he wanted to play at Madrid and like 15 days before he changed the situation," Perez told El Chiringuito TV.

"This is not the Mbappe I wanted to bring, he is another one, who must have changed his dream.

"He changes, he is offered other things, he is pressured and he is already another footballer. There is no one at Real Madrid above the club.

"He is a great player, he can win more than others, but it is a collective sport and we have values and principles that we cannot change."

Mbappe signed his new contract till 2025, but he'll still only be 26-years-old when he becomes available for free again, meaning his prime years could still be to come.

That would make him a very popular player amongst Europe's biggest sides once again, and even potentially the year before if he continues to not want to leave his hometown club for nothing.

Perez doesn't want to sign 'this version' of the striker however, adding, "The Mbappe who was going to come here is not this one. If it is, I prefer him to stay at Paris Saint-Germain.

"I want the one with the dream. Impossible in three years? In three years' time we'll all be bald? This Mbappe is not my Mbappe."

And he didn't completely rule out the 14 times European champions signing the former Monaco forward in the future, saying, "Real Madrid will be always open to buy players who understand that no one is bigger than the club."

The league's annoyance at transfer didn't stop with Mbappe's decision to not move to La Liga, with a complaint also going in about Erling Haaland.

Javier Tebas isn't happy that both PSG and Manchester City's spending goes on relatively unchecked, which, considering his league has a Barcelona team in deep financial trouble but still making expensive signings in it, is rather ironic.
