Real Madrid President Florentino Perez has announced new club elections during an incredible rant against the media following an emergency meeting of the club's board.

Despite being one of the most successful clubs in the world, the current situation at Real Madrid is dire to say the least.

For the second season in a row the Spanish giants have finished their campaign without a trophy, causing serious doubts over the future of manager Alvaro Arbeloa just four months after he replaced Xabi Alonso.

Meanwhile, on the training pitch there have been several reports of fights between players, with the most recent incident ending with a trip to the hospital after Federico Valverde needed treatment for a cut to his head after an altercation with teammate Aurelien Tchouameni.

With so much going on at Real Madrid, club president Perez made a shock announcement that he would be holding an emergency press conference immediately after a meeting of the Board of Directors to answer all questions from the media.

Given the fact that Perez rarely speaks directly to the media, alarm bells immediately started ringing across the fan base, with many thinking that he may be stepping down from his role at the club.

However, in a shocking rant, the 79-year-old lashed out at speculation about his future, confirming he would be staying at the club while also announcing that elections would now be held at the club three years earlier than needed.

"I'm not going to resign. I have asked the electoral board to initiate the process to call elections, in which this current board and I are going to run again," Perez confirmed.

"An absurd campaign has been created to attack me personally. They say 'where is Florentino?' If I normally don't speak. They say that I'm sick and have terminal cancer. I continue presiding over Real Madrid and ACS. My health is perfect.

"If I had cancer, I should enter an oncology centre. They say I'm tired, that I'm old... ABC has said that 'I'm very tired.' I don't even know the gentleman who wrote this. Is he around here? To greet him.

"This year we haven't been able to win anything. I'm the first one who wants to win it all. I remind you that we have won 37 titles in football and 26 titles in basketball.

"I'm going to present myself to defend Madrid. Not because of some journalists who think they're going to intimidate me.

"Journalists think they say things and people will believe them. People believe me. They don't interfere in Real Madrid's decisions."

"They don't call the shots. Why do they want to kill me? I was chosen the best president in history. We have the most valuable club in history. We have the most valuable squad in history.

“I work day and night as an Animal for Real Madrid”.

On several occasions, members of the media present at the conference could be heard getting heated at Perez's comments, leading to arguments in the press room.

Perez appeared to be particularly angry with Spanish outlet Relevo, calling out Ruben Canizares, who was present at the conference.

"Journalists like Ruben Canizares, you, yes you create trouble for Real Madrid," Perez said.

"Today there was a woman writing who I don't even know if she knows anything about football."

Perez's rant continued for over 20 minutes, with the Real Madrid barely pausing for breath as he continued attacking the Spanish media.
