Real Madrid star Federico Valverde got revenge with Champions League goal celebration

Federico Valverde's brilliant start to the season continued on Wednesday night in the Champions League, as Real Madrid beat RB Leipzig, and his goal celebration was all about revenge.

Current holders Real had a tough time finding their way through Leipzig in the second round of group games earlier this week, but did eventually win the game 2-0.

It was Valverde who broke the deadlock, cutting in from the right hand side of the box and drilling home with his left foot, after excellent work from Vinicius Jr on the left wing.

The midfielder celebrated with a real passionate vigour, pumping both his arms enthusiastically, as if the goal really meant something to him, and it did, revenge.

Footage has now shown that Leipzig's David Raum gave it a little too much when he earlier blocked a cross from the Uruguayan, and in turn the goal celebration was done right at Raum, who was probably feeling pretty stupid.

Previously the most goals Valverde has scored in a season has been three, in all competitions, and already this term he has matched that.

The 24-year-old netted one against Celta Vigo last month, just his seventh goal in over 150 appearances for Los Blancos, and doubled his La Liga tally only last week.

Valverde scored an absolute wonder goal against Real Mallorca, collecting the ball in his own half before running through and firing home from the edge of the area.

With his strike against Leipzig, he's quickly becoming quite the important goalscorer for Carlo Ancelotti's team, as they look to win back to back Champions League and La Liga titles.

Speaking after the match, Ancelotti claimed he should be able to get the former Penarol midfielder up to 10 goals, or he'll have to resign.

"What was strange last year was that he only scored one goal, in the Super Cup I think.

“If you can’t get a player like that to score at least 10 goals in a season then you should rip up your coaching badge and retire.

"Because he has a rock of a foot. Tonight he took the shot with his left foot. I’ve never seen him shoot like that with his left, so it shows he’s confident in his abilities, and he has a lot of abilities.

"He’s more than just energy. But, to say he’s best in the world in his position, we might have to wait a little longer."

The win against Leipzig means that the 14 times Champions League winners are the only side in their group with a 100% record after two games.

They next face Shakhtar in back-to-back games, with the Ukrainian side being forced to play their home games in Poland this season due to the ongoing war in their home country.
