Federico Valverde runs from his own half to score stunning goal for Real Madrid

Valverde isn't known for his goalscoring but he's probably bagged the goal of the weekend, to equalise for Real on the stroke of half time.

Federico Valverde ran over half the pitch, and through the Real Mallorca defence, to score a stunning equaliser in Real Madrid's game on Sunday.

Valverde isn't exactly well known for his goal scoring abilities, with the midfielder having scored just seven times in over 150 appearances for Real.

The 24-year-old already had one this season, against Celta Vigo last month, so that's normally pretty much his quota for each campaign.

However, on Sunday afternoon he provided what must be one of the goals of the weekend, and could even come be one of the best of the whole season.

The midfielder collected the ball in his own half and drove on into the Mallorca half, getting away from several defenders, before cutting into the middle of the pitch.

From the edge of the box he unleashed a brilliant shot that beat visiting goalkeeper Predrag Rajkovic, on the stroke of half time, and flew into the back of the goa.

Real Madrid have started the season in similar form to where they left of at the end of the last campaign, where they were crowned Spanish and European champions.

Luka Modric in particular is in incredible form, having earned standing ovations against Celta and in midweek against Celtic, in the Champions League.

The 37-year-old was missing from the starting line up on Sunday, having earned himself a much needed rest, with Valverde partnering Toni Kroos and Dani Ceballos in the centre of the pitch.

The new trio didn't seem to be working in the first half, with Vedat Muriqi giving the visitors the lead in the 35th minute, heading home from a free kick for his third goal in four games.

It looked like Carlo Ancelotti's side would head into the half time break 1-0 down, until Valverde picked up the ball late in injury time and provided a moment of magic.

Now that's what we call an equaliser. Valverde carried the ball from his own half and scored a screamer with his weak foot. What a goal. What a player. Generational talent. Best Uruguayan player in the world.#FootballWithDME pic.twitter.com/pVNdHff02C

Superhuman Modric was required in the second half, coming on for Eden Hazard, who had impressed in midweek and was making a first start in La Liga for some time.

However, it was the Brazilian pair of Rodrygo and Vinicius Jr who finally put the hosts ahead in the 72nd minute, with Rodrygo taking the ball on, beating a few challenges before finding his countrymen.

Vinicius' touch took the ball wide of the goal but he shot with aplomb past Rajkovic, although it was never going to be the goal of the game.

The floodgates had clearly then been opened, with Rodrygo adding his own goal in the 89th minute and Antonio Rudiger scoring his first for the Spanish giants in injury time.
