Everton's Amadou Onana took the worst penalty ever in Fulham shoot-out defeat

Everton's Amadou Onana took the worst penalty ever in Fulham shoot-out defeat

Amadou Onana had the chance to win the shoot-out but his penalty was a shocker.

Everton midfielder Amadou Onana took one of the worst penalties in history as the Toffees were knocked out of the Carabao Cup.

Sean Dyche's side were losing 1-0 to Fulham in the quarter-final but a late equaliser from Beto forced penalties.

Everton had the chance to win it through midfielder Onana after Bobby Decordova-Reid missed from 12 yards.

The pressure fell on the shoulders of Belgium international Onana. But the former Lille man's penalty was a shocker.

He produced the slowest, most bizarre run-up going but Bernd Leno was having none of it and he made probably the easiest save of his career.

Everton then ended up losing the shoot-out, with centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo scoring the winner.

But it was a horrific attempt from Onana and one that received a good panning on social media.

One fan wrote: "Thoughts with Amadou Onana who has to face Sean Dyche after that penalty."

A second said: "We lost because Onana tried to take a 'drippy' penalty."

A third fumed: "That Onana penalty up there with the very worst. Arrogant run up and zero conviction. What a wasted opportunity."

Another didn't hold back, writing: "Onana wanting to be the bit man again there. Dreadful. The goalkeeper should never hold on to a penalty. It was like a back pass."

A fifth had the same view, saying: "Absolutely pathetic penalty. He could have dived the wrong way and got back to save that. Disgraceful to do that on a winning penalty."

A final person commented: "There is no way Onana did this for the deciding penalty hahahaha. Dear god I’d transfer list him."

Fulham have joined Chelsea and Middlesbrough in the semi-finals after their wins over Newcastle and Port Vale respectively.

Liverpool or West Ham will be the final addition to the draw, with the two sides locking horns at Anfield on Wednesday.
