As many as four Premier League teams could benefit from UEFA's decision to demote Crystal Palace to the Conference League.
After claiming their first-ever trophy with a historic FA Cup final win over Manchester City in May, Crystal Palace secured a spot in the 2025/26 Europa League for the first time in the club's history.
However, their participation in the competition was immediately thrown into doubt due to multi-club ownership regulations, with former majority shareholder John Textor also holding a controlling stake in French club Lyon.
When news later broke that Lyon were set to be relegated to the second-tier of French football, it was believed that Palace may yet keep their place in the Europa League.

However, after it was confirmed that Lyon had kept their place in Ligue 1, UEFA announced that Crystal Palace would be demoted to the Conference League, and it could be great news for four Premier League sides.
Although it is expected that Palace will appeal UEFA's decision and keep their hopes of playing in the Europa League alive just a little longer, it now appears likely that they will lose their place in Europe's second-tier.
If so, then there is no club that will be happier than Nottingham Forest, who would then take Palace's place in the Europa League as the second English club competing in the competition.

Currently, two teams from the Premier League are granted a spot in the Europa League, with Aston Villa securing the other after finishing sixth in the Premier League.
Forest take Palace's place in the Europa League after finishing seventh in the Premier League table, meaning their spot in Conference League will now go to the Eagles instead.
However, Forest are not the only club who could benefit from Palace's demotion, as the news will undoubtedly weaken the London club's hopes of holding on to their star players.

Many of Palace's key players have been linked with major summer moves in recent weeks, with several Premier League sides reportedly considering making moves before the window closes.
With deals for Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez all finalised, Liverpool have reportedly turned their interest to England International Marc Guehi, viewing him as a potential replacement for current star Ibrahima Konate.
The 24-year-old has just one year left on his current deal with Palace and is believed to be eager to make the move to Anfield after previously refusing to rule out a summer transfer following the FA Cup victory.
And with Liverpool able to offer him a place in the Champions League, it may prove difficult for Palace to convince the centre-back to remain in London and instead play in Europe's third division.

The same could be said for Eberechi Eze, who has strongly been linked with a move to Arsenal, following Mikel Arteta's securing the transfers of Kepa Arrizabalaga, Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard and Noni Madueke.
Like Liverpool, Arsenal will compete in the Champions League next season an enticing thought for Eze if he were to join and secure a place in the starting lineup.
But it's not just Champions League sides that may exploit Palace's now weakened position in negotiations, as Manchester United may consider reigniting their interest in striker Jean-Philippe Mateta should it become clear he is available for cheaper than before.
