Piers Morgan accuses Lionel Messi of 'gloating' in his Instagram posts after World Cup win

If Morgan was fishing for bites from angry Messi fans, then that's certainly what he got.

Piers Morgan has teed off on Lionel Messi, accusing the Argentinian megastar of 'gloating' about his World Cup victory in his recent Instagram posts.

A Cristiano Ronaldo fanboy, Morgan has never disguised the fact that he absolutely adores the Portuguese forward – regularly coming out to bat for him on social media.

And with that said, he thinks there's only one clear winner in the Messi-Ronaldo GOAT debate.

But while Morgan's love for Ronaldo is undeniable, he has also never shied away from taking digs at Messi whenever he can.

Now the British television personality has taken another swipe in the wake of Messi winning the World Cup.

"OK, Lionel.. we get it, you won the World Cup," Morgan tweeted.

"You’re slightly over-egging the gloating soufflé now…"

He then attached a screenshot of Messi' Instagram page, with the last six of his posts being about his World Cup triumph.

If Morgan was fishing for bites from angry fans, that was certainly what he got.

One person replied: "Grow up."

While another added: "So sad it's not CR7, huh? Get over it."

As a third said: "You are embarrassing yourself just by saying that."

Meanwhile, another lad joked: "Ok Piers we get it. You did an interview with Ronaldo."

So? The city’s population is 15m - have the other 11m stayed inside because like me, they think Maradona is still the Argentinian 🐐? https://t.co/sFAmJkpDhB

But Morgan wasn't done there.

In a previous tweet, he took aim at the Argentinian support in Buenos Aires during the team's victory parade – while also firing shots at Messi, once again.

When ESPN posted a picture of the 'estimated 4 MILLION people walking around the streets of Buenos Aires', Morgan couldn't help but unload.

He replied: "So? The city’s population is 15m - have the other 11m stayed inside because like me, they think Maradona is still the Argentinian GOAT?"

That tweet, too, saw fans flock to the comments section to go after Morgan.

One person said: "That’s genuinely just delusion, lad."

As another added: "Stop embarrassing yourself, you don't need to downplay Messi's achievements because you prefer Ronaldo."

While a third said: "Piers. Its okay to be happy for other people man. What's all the negativity towards Messi? I know you’re better than this."
