Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has won the first league title of his career playing just eight minutes

Aubameyang has spent most of the season not playing for an awful Chelsea team but is still a league champion for Barcelona.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has won the first league title of his career, despite barely playing for Chelsea during their atrocious campaign this season.

Trying to understand the past 18 months of Aubameyang's career will only leave you scratching your head, having been Arsenal captain at the start of all that.

Being late for the north London derby seemed to kick off all the problems as Mikel Arteta decided that he needed to get rid of the striker.

His contract at the Emirates Stadium was ripped up on transfer deadline day in January 2022, to allow him to move to Barcelona on a free.

The Gabonese forward did well in the second half of the campaign for Barca, scoring 11 times in just 17 appearances in the league.

In the summer Chelsea came in for him and spent around £10 million to reunite him with Thomas Tuchel, who had managed him at Borussia Dortmund.

Tuchel's sacking came just weeks later and the forward has ended up playing just 15 Premier League games, only five starts, and scored a single goal in that time.

Back in March he was spotted inside the Barcelona dressing room celebrating their win over Real Madrid in El Classico, and now he's got another reason to celebrate.

Aubameyang played eight minutes of the opening game of the campaign for Xavi's team against Rayo Vallecano, coming on for Jordi Alba as they chased a winner in a 0-0 draw, meaning he's officially a La Liga champion.

In the Premier League players require five appearances in a campaign in order to earn themselves a medal and the title of a league winner.

However it's not the case on the continent and is the same reason that Kingsley Coman has won the league in every season of his career so far.

It seems utterly ridiculous than anyone who plays for Chelsea could consider themselves a champion right now, especially someone who has played as poorly as Aubameyang.

He is expected to return to the Nou Camp in the summer after the club were considering cancelling his contract following the Clasico incident.

The 33-year-old appeared to have more affiliation to Arsenal than Chelsea recently, when he was given a rare start in the game between the pair.

Barca confirmed their 27th Spanish league title by defeating local rivals Espanyol on Sunday, with the players chased down the tunnel by home fans as they celebrated.
