Tunnel footage shows Sergio Busquets and Marcos Alonso were fuming after Espanyol fans chased Barcelona players

Barcelona clinched the La Liga title on Sunday night

Sergio Busquets and Marcos Alonso were absolutely furious after Barcelona players were chased down the tunnel by Espanyol fans.

On Sunday night, Xavi’s men arrived at the RCDE Stadium looking to clinch their first La Liga title since 2019.

Goals from Robert Lewandowski, Alejandro Balde and Jules Kounde did the job as the Catalan giants went on to win 4-2 against their local rivals.

After the final whistle went, chaos ensued amid jubilant Barcelona celebrations.

A mob of angry Espanyol fans were seen running onto the pitch and chasing the Barcelona players, forcing them to flee the pitch and into the tunnel.

Footage from inside the tunnel showed that the players were shouting furiously towards the fans and security.

It was reported that Busquets and Alonso were shouting at the security to provide some form of protection to the Barcelona players.

Fans were quick to react to the footage on social media.

One said: “This is what happens when ultras are romanticized and acts like this are excused by media as "passionate”.”

Another tweeted: “Yea, Alonso and Busquets didn't have to come back and fight with them, but it was probably from emotions after destroying happiness from winning league and hearing slurs.”

A third fan added: “The security have to do better than that, Alonso and Busquets are rightly angry!”

Afterwards, Barcelona boss Xavi said: “I have told them to stop inside because I think it is enough. The celebration is normal, but it was respectful to go to the booth because we were not at home. I am rational.

“But emotions are difficult to control. We celebrated it not because we were in Espanyol's camp but for the title. We're not at home.”

He continued: “I haven't seen if anything else has happened, I've gone inside. We shouldn't give it more importance.

“We shouldn't create controversy. I thought it was time to go in, there was We have to celebrate it inside as a family. We haven't provoked anyone. We were celebrating a League that is very important to us.”
