Gareth Southgate will be knighted if England win Euro 2020, potentially along with several players including star man Raheem Sterling.

England beat Denmark 2-1 at Wembley Stadium to reach the final of Euro 2020.

Southgate has produced managerial heroics to help his team beat the likes of Croatia, Germany and Ukraine in the tournament.

It now appears that Southgate and potentially Sterling will be knighted if England end their 55-year wait for a major international trophy.

According to POLITICO, it is widely assumed in government that if England do beat Italy, Southgate will be knighted.

A host of players such as Sterling, who already has an MBE, could also receive a knighthood.

Gongs will be handed out even if they lose on Sunday.

Southgate praised England following their semi-final victory and urged his players to conquer one more massive hurdle.

"I'm so proud of the players. It's an incredible occasion to be a part of - we knew it wouldn't be straightforward," he said.

"We said to the players we'll have to show our resilience and come back from some setbacks, and we've done that tonight. The most pleasing thing is that we've given our fans and our nation a fantastic night, and the journey continues on for another four days.

"There's one more massive hurdle to try to conquer. Italy are a very good side. They've shown outstanding form and have defensive warriors at the back who have been through everything. It's something to look forward to."
