Mikael Silvestre has ripped into Jamie Carragher over the spitting incident that saw him suspended from Sky Sports.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United defender was replying to a clip from the Sky Sports twitter account during which Carragher predicted we wouldn't see David Luiz play for Arsenal again after his shambolic red card performance in the 3-0 loss to Manchester City last night.

But out of the blue, Silvestre went in on Carragher with a brutal tweet.

The Frenchman wrote: "We all thought the same after he spat at football fans but he is back... spitting at football players!"

The completely unexpected putdown has garnered a whole lot of reaction on social media, though Carragher himself has yet to respond.

Back in 2018, the former Liverpool defender was driving in his car and being goaded by a United fan after the 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford, which he was in attendance for.

The supporter was heard saying "Unlucky Jamie lad!" and "2-1!". After the supporter wound his window down, Carragher reacted by spitting towards them.

In the clip filmed by the Dad, the girl says "He spat on me" and adds, "On my face" when he asks where it hit her.

Carragher, who was extremely remorseful for his actions and spoke to the family involved, was suspended by Sky before he was gradually introduced back onto TV.

His punditry partner Gary Neville supported him and was happy for him to return to television. There was an awkward moment in April, however, when presenter Kelly Cates was asking about Luis Suarez biting Branislav Ivanovic.

Cates said, "If you have a player that spits that's disgusting" as she asked Carragher a question about the 2013 incident and it prompted a priceless reaction out of Neville.
