Wrexham star Ollie Palmer aims dig at Stockport County in pre-match interview after 'disrespectful' comments

Wrexham and Stockport meet each other in Saturday's final game after both securing promotion to League One.

Wrexham striker Ollie Palmer has aimed at dig at Stockport County ahead of their final day showdown on Saturday.

Both sides have achieved promotion to League One after stellar seasons, with Stockport winning League Two and Wrexham finishing third.

Phil Parkinson's side returned to the Football League for the first time in 15 years after winning the National League and have gone back-to-back.

They could still finish second with a victory at home to the champions on Saturday and for Palmer, there is extra incentive to win.

He accused Hatters boss Dave Challinor of being "disrespectful" to Wrexham.

"There’s rivalry with Stockport, their manager has been disrespectful to our club in the past and we are all aware of that,” he said, as per The Wrexham Insider.

“They have won the league so credit to them, well done, but we have both achieved the same thing at the end of the day and we have done it back-to-back.

“What we have done is incredible. Only a couple of teams have done back-to-back promotions.”

Palmer appears to be referring to Challinor chanting “F*** you Wrexham" after beating the Welsh outfit to the National League title back in 2022.

Wrexham and Stockport were neck-and-neck that season and at one stage the Red Dragons led the way on goal difference.

However, Stockport won a crucial game in hand and finished six points ahead of their title rivals.

Only one team achieves automatic promotion from the National League and so Wrexham went into the play-offs.

But Wrexham lost 5-4 in a thrilling semi-final against Grimsby Town, who eventually joined Stockport in League Two.

It's a different story now though ad Wrexham could break a record for the most goals scored at home in League Two on Saturday.

Three goals against Stockport will see them knock off previous holders Luton Town.

Luton scored 62 times at home in the 2017/18 season.
