Cristiano Ronaldo has been accused of betraying Juventus by the Italian media following their shock Champions League exit.

The Italian press have slammed Ronaldo and Co after the Serie A giants were dumped out of the competition by Porto on Tuesday.

The Portuguese superstar saw the brunt of the intense criticism after he turned his back in the wall as Sergio Oliveira scored a crucial free-kick in extra-time.

Local media didn't hold back as Corriere dello Sport ran with the headline: "Betrayed by Ronaldo," on their front page on Wednesday morning, suggesting the 36-year-old should have done better to block the shot.

They also took aim at Wojciech Szczesny for his role in the goal, describing his attempt to save the shot as a "decisive error."

Gazzetta dello Sport branded Juventus' early elimination as "another Champions League disaster" for the club.

The Italian sports daily said Ronaldo had "disappointed" across the entire match while further reports claim his future in Turin is now "full of uncertainty" following yet another underwhelming European campaign.

Club legend Alessandro Del Piero also pulled no punches as he lambasted his showing against Porto.

"Juventus betrayed by Cristiano Ronaldo? Yes, but not only," he explained.

"The Portuguese has his responsibility because he is the leader of this team but not only him.

"Juventus played for more than an hour with one more man and in this time, they could create more and they could do it because Porto has always been waiting for them."

Former Juventus striker Nicola Amoruso also weighed in with his thoughts, saying Ronaldo is afraid of taking a ball to the face because he cares about his image in a scathing assessment.

"I would never put him [Ronaldo] in the barrier on free kicks," he said.

"He is afraid of receiving a ball in the face because he cares about his image."

Ronaldo still has the chance to win silverware for Juventus this season in the shape of the Coppa Italia.

But his side face an uphill battle to win the Scudetto as they trail league leaders Inter Milan by a massive 10 points.
