Juventus set to offer Mason Greenwood 'fresh start' after Man Utd suspension

Juventus set to offer Mason Greenwood 'fresh start' after Man Utd suspension

The Manchester United forward hasn't played in more than a year after allegations of sexual assault resulted in a suspension

Juventus have reportedly 'sounded out' Mason Greenwood's representatives over a possible move this summer that could resurrect the Manchester United forward's career.

Greenwood, 21, has not played a competitive match since January 2022 when he was accused of attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault.

All those charges were subsequently dropped by police in February this year with the Crown Prosecution Service revealing "the withdrawal of key witnesses and new material that came to light" meant a conviction was "no longer realistic".

United, who immediately suspended Greenwood following the allegations, are still conducting their own internal investigation into the player.

It is, however, expected Greenwood will not feature for the club again, with The Sun now reporting that Juventus are among a number of European clubs looking into a transfer.

The Italian giants apparently feel the presence of ex United star Paul Pogba could help Greenwood settle in Turin.

It is claimed fellow Serie A sides AC Milan and Roma have expressed an interest, as well as clubs in Turkey.

Greenwood has been training away from United's Carrington base in recent weeks, though still has two years left a contract worth around £75,000-a-week at Old Trafford.

It is not known whether United would get a fee for selling Greenwood; it's reported that a long-term loan may be the most likely solution.

A United statement in February read: "Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped.

"The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete."

Erik ten Hag was asked about Greenwood in February but said he could not comment and referred journalists to the club's statement.

The Bradford-born United academy product won his one and only England cap against Iceland in 2020 in the UEFA Nations League.

He has scored 35 senior goals for the Old Trafford club in 129 matches.
