Former Manchester United defender Wes Brown is reportedly renting one of Marcus Rashford’s properties on a ‘mates' rates’ deal.

Last month, it was reported that 43-year-old Brown has been declared bankrupt.

According to the Daily Mail, the former England defender fell into a six-figure debt with HMRC as well as failing on car payments.

Brown apparently owes the car finance company a few thousand pounds.

It has also been said that Brown lost millions in failed property deals that completely destroyed his wealth.

The Daily Mail also reported that his former United teammates Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick have rallied around the ex-defender.

Now, it is believed that Rashford has stepped in by renting Brown one of his properties on a 'mates' rates' deal.

Brown and his wife Leanne, divorced last year. The pair had three children when they were together.

It has been alleged that a costly lifestyle has left Brown struggling financially.

According to the report, a source said: “It may seem like Wes was earning big money — to most people he was — but the trouble was he was also trying to keep up with the lifestyle of team-mates earning five or six times more than he was.

“Most of his money disappeared in bad property deals. He overpaid on the farm that Leanne lives in. He spent something like £6 million or £7 million to buy that.

“They have tried to sell it but haven’t managed to, even after lowering the price to £4.75m. Any money left is tied up in the farm.

“A previous property of theirs was once listed at £4.5m but took seven years to sell, finally going for £2.4million — almost half price.”

During what was an illustrious career, Brown won five Premier League titles, two Champions leagues, two FA Cups, two League Cups and two FA Community Shields whilst playing for the Old Trafford club.

The defender also made 23 appearances for England, scoring once.

SPORTbible has contacted Wes Brown and Marcus Rashford’s representatives for comment.
