Manchester United have set their sights on a Barcelona star amid a potential transfer that could see Marcus Rashford sign for the Spanish giants on a permanent deal.

Rashford joined Barca from Man United on a season-long loan, with an option to buy him in the summer.

According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, for a deal to be made permanent, Barca 'only need to exercise the purchase option', which is said to be €30 million (£26.2 million).

The publication claims he is 'very likely' to stay at the Camp Nou beyond this season, having impressed in Spain's top flight.

He has scored 10 goals in 37 games across all competitions this season.

But one of his teammates could be heading the other way.

Man United are interested in signing left-back Alejandro Balde next summer as they aim to recruit new players ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Red Devils, who are without a permanent manager following the sacking of Ruben Amorim, have identified areas for improvement, with a new full-back high on their transfer wish-list.

But, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Barca are reluctant to sell Balde, viewing him as an essential part of their long-term plans.

The club's leadership see him as a pilar of their future defensive structure given his stellar performances since he graduated from the youth academy.

Balde made his Barca debut in September 2021 before he was given a more prominent role by then-coach Xavi in the 2022/23 season.

The 22-year-old, who is contracted until 2028, made 47 appearances last season and has played 34 games under Hansi Flick this campaign.

He is regarded as one of the club's best youth products in recent years, so they are unwilling to sanction his sale.

It appears Man United will have to look elsewhere if they want to add a left-back to their squad next summer.
