Erik ten Hag must learn Ole Gunnar Solskjaer lesson when Man Utd face Leeds in double-header

Manchester United must not take managerless Leeds lightly.

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag must not take managerless Leeds United lightly in tonight’s Premier League clash.

United can draw level with second-placed Manchester City and extend a 13-match winning run at home if they defeat Leeds at Old Trafford this evening,

Meanwhile, the Whites head into tonight’s match having sacked manager Jesse Marsch after a run of just two wins from their last 17 Premier League games.

Leeds are currently languishing in 17th in the Premier League table, only above the relegation zone on goal difference.

Tonight’s clash is the first of two consecutive encounters between the two teams, who have been bitter rivals since the Sixties when Matt Busby and Don Revie were in charge of the respective clubs.

Ten Hag must learn from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer

Ten Hag must learn from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time as United caretaker by not underestimating Leeds, who will be led out by interim manager Chris Armas.

Indeed, Leeds could potentially have a ‘new manager bounce’ under Armas, just as Solskjaer enjoyed when taking over as caretaker upon the sacking of Jose Mourinho.

Solskjaer had an excellent start as caretaker manager. He led United to a 5-1 win against his former club Cardiff in his opening game in charge of the Old Trafford club.

The Norwegian subsequently went on to win his first five games in charge - the first United manager to do so since Busby in 1946.

After winning 14 of his first 19 games in charge of United, Solskjaer was handed a three-year deal as permanent manager.

Of course, his time as permanent boss was marked by relative inertia, with the former striker winning just 78 of his 149 games.

However, Solskjaer’s time as caretaker should serve as a warning to Ten Hag about the impact managerial change can have on a team.
