Manchester United have removed a mural containing Cristiano Ronaldo from outside Old Trafford following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

At his request, Ronaldo sat down with the journalist in a 90-minute interview and claimed he had been "betrayed" by the club and was being forced out.

Ronaldo also stated he does not "have respect" for manager Erik ten Hag, said he had "never heard" of Ralf Rangnick before he was appointed interim boss and slated the club's current position and facilities.

Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney were also called out for criticising the Portuguese superstar, who slammed the Glazer family and branded United a "marketing club."

Snippets from the interview were posted online before the first part of the interview was aired on TalkTV at 8pm on Wednesday night.

Ronaldo is currently in Qatar with Portugal preparing for the World Cup but is likely to face heavy punishment from his employers.

But over in Manchester, the club have taken down a large poster which saw him feature alongside a slew of United legends who wore No.7, including David Beckham and Eric Cantona.

It was reported in the summer that Ronaldo was involved in an advert alongside those star names but its release was delayed as a result of his transfer request.

Old Trafford will stage the Rugby League World Cup final between Australia and Samoa, with the next United home game not until 21 December when the Red Devils take on Burnley in the Carabao Cup.

There has been talk that Ronaldo could be facing a fine of £1 million for the interview, which follows on from him refusing to come on as a substitute against Spurs.

The 37-year-old reportedly earns around £500,000-per-week and United could save around £15 million if they get rid of him in the January transfer window.
