Piers Morgan snubbed Cristiano Ronaldo when naming his ultimate sporting GOAT.

Morgan is a huge admirer of Ronaldo and has refused to budge on his belief that the Portuguese superstar is football's greatest ahead of Lionel Messi.

He even laid out a 'sheet of facts' to prove Ronaldo's football GOAT status.

But Morgan has named one sporting legend he'd pick over Ronaldo in a surprise revelation given his relationship with the 40-year-old.

The English media personality was asked to pick between Ronaldo and the late, great Shane Warne on The Overlap and Betfair’s Stick to Cricket show.

He began by joking that he'd side with Warne if it was a night out before explaining why he opted for the iconic Australian leg spin bowler.

"For what? Well, if it's a night out, Warney," he told Michael Vaughan.

Morgan added: "In terms of sporting greatness, Warney to me is... I would say he's the greatest cricketer that's ever lived and the reason I'd say that is I just felt a) he was a master bowler but b) the mental dominance he used to have over people, the mental strength, the resilience, the character, the fun, the whole package."

On the Warne and Ronaldo comparison, he explained: "I could choose a batsman... I could choose an all-rounder but if you ask me actually, If I could have someone to win a game for my life - and that's why the parallel is quite interesting, If I could think of a footballer to score a goal on a wet Wednesday in Stoke to save my life, who would would I choose? I'd choose Cristiano.

"And If it was to win a cricket match on any surface, it would be Shane Warne."

Morgan continued "If I have to choose one over the other, I'm going Shane Warne.

"I love Ronaldo, but he would understand. Cricket is my first and biggest love. As long as I didn't say Messi, he'll be fine."

Warne took a staggering 708 test wickets during his legendary career.

He bamboozled English batters in fiercely contested Ashes series and delivered the 'Ball of the Century' when he knocked over Mike Gatting's off stump in 1993.

Warne retired from international cricket at the end of Australia's 2006/07 Ashes series victory over England.

He died suddenly of a heart attack at the age of 52 in March 2022.
