Cristiano Ronaldo has hit out at fellow Manchester United legend and former teammate Wayne Rooney while speaking with Piers Morgan.

Across the club's storied 147-year history, Manchester United has welcomed some of the best players ever to kick a football.

In recent years, the likes of Eric Cantona, George Best and Sir Bobby Charlton have all stood out as key players for the Red Devils and in English football in general.

However, perhaps more than anyone else, both Ronaldo and Rooney come to mind as two of United's most notable and beloved players, certainly in the Premier League era.

But it appears that the two former teammates don't see eye to eye on one key debate in football, and Ronaldo clearly isn't happy about it.

Throughout his career in broadcasting, Piers Morgan has made it clear that he believes that Ronaldo is the greatest football player of all time.

Of course, such a discussion is entirely subjective, but many would agree that the standout options are either Ronaldo or long-term rival Lionel Messi.

And, despite playing alongside Ronaldo for five years between 2004 and 2009, United legend Rooney opted for the latter when asked to name the GOAT, something that didn't sit right with Ronaldo when Morgan mentioned it to him in a recent interview.

In a clip teasing Morgan's upcoming interview with Ronaldo, the journalist stated: "Wayne Rooney has said that he doesn't hate you, but he still said that Messi is better."

To which Ronaldo, clearly annoyed by the comment, replied: "No problem. I don't agree - I don't want to be humble."

The full details of Ronaldo's response remain to be seen, with the interview set to be released on the Piers Morgan Uncensored channel on November 4, but it's clear that Ronaldo does not agree with his ex-teammate, who explained his reasons for selecting Messi on The Overlap.

“I understand that people can say Messi, people can say Ronaldo – they are both incredible, probably the best two players to ever play the game,” said Rooney.

But when asked “Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo?” he quickly answered “Lionel Messi.

“For me, Messi has just got that little bit more flair, which I like in a player, so that's the reason."

Cristiano Ronaldo labels Wayne Rooney a 'rat' during Piers Morgan interview

This isn't the first time that the Portuguese striker has lashed out at his former United teammate during an interview with Morgan, as he also did so during the explosive interview that led to him leaving United in November 2022.

Whilst speaking about money and fame, Morgan asked: “More pounds in the bank or more Instagram followers?”

Ronaldo replied: “That’s a good question! Probably similar!”

Morgan then said: “I’m just trying to work out how Wayne Rooney could hate you even more!”

Ronaldo then replied: “Not only him, imagine the rest of the rats they are going to criticise me too, but it is good to still be the number one.”
